About Isabel

Trombonist Isabel Laurel is known for her pure, lyrical sound and intuitive musical instinct. She is currently a junior at Vanderbilt University Blair School of Music studying Tenor Trombone Performance with Professor Jeremy Wilson. Laurel is based in Nashville, playing both classical and jazz trombone in Blair’s numerous ensembles and programs. She can be found performing in the Vanderbilt Wind Symphony and the Vanderbilt University Orchestra with Maestro Dr. Thomas Verrier and Maestro Ernesto Estigarribia Mussi, respectively. Outside of these ensembles, she plays in the Vanderbilt Trombone Ensemble and a trombone quartet with her studio mates. You can also find her gigging, in local recording studios, and enjoying the Music City scene.

Prior to attending Vanderbilt, she was a member of the GTCYS Symphony and Philharmonic, playing under the batons of Maestro Mark Russel Smith and Maestro Ernesto Estigarribia Mussi. In the summer of 2022, she attended the Boston University Tanglewood Institute Trombone Workshop, where she studied with Dr. Don Lucas and Toby Oft. Laurel’s teachers include Jeremy Wilson, R. Douglas Wright, Dr. John Froelich, Nick Laufer, Norman Bolter, Dr. Fred Sienkiewicz, Dr. Don Lucas, and Dr. Phil Ostrander. She plans to record an EP and to continue sharing about music via her blog. In her free time, she enjoys drawing and painting, writing, and time with her family and corgis outdoors.
